Potential dependent adhesion forces on bare and underpotential deposition modified electrode surfaces
Article Abstract:
A study was conducted to analyze the potential dependence of the adhesion force between a Si3N4 cantilever and a Au(111) surface altered by the underpotential deposition of bismuth or copper in acid solution or by oxide formation. Results indicated that the readsorption of sulfate correlated with the underpotential deposition of copper. Findings also showed that potential-dependent differences associated with the adhesion between an atomic force microscope tip and a surface in the electrochemical environment can be sensitive probe of the state of the electrode surface.

Chemisorption properties and structural evolution of Pt-Si intermetallic thin films prepared by the activated adsorption of SiH4 on Pt(111)
Article Abstract:
A study was conducted to analyze the reaction of a silicon adlayer deposited on Pt(111) by chemical vapor deposition using silane. The experiment was carried out using two ultrahigh-vacuum chambers supporting a base pressure of <3 x 10(super -10) Torr. The temperature-programmed desorption spectra were obtained by a constant heating rate of 2 K/s. Experimental results indicated that phase formation correlated with the crystallographic properties of the (111) orientation of the fcc platinum lattice structure.
