Radiolytic synthesis of bimetallic Ag-Pt nanoparticles with a high aspect ratio
Article Abstract:
The aqueous solutions of Ag-Pt ions and poly(vinyl alcohol) are irradiated with gamma rays at dose rates below 0.5 kGy/h to generate nanoparticles. Wirelike structures were generated with lengths up to 3.5 micrometer and diameter between 3 and 20 nm. Selected-area diffraction showed that the wires were polycrystalline and that individual grains making up the wires had a face-centered cubic (fcc) structure.

Size-controlled synthesis of nanoparticles. 1. "silver-only" aqueous suspensions via hydrogen reduction
Article Abstract:
A method for size-controlled synthesis of chemically clean silver nanoparticles is proposed and described. The synthesis is based on the reduction of silver(I) oxide by hydrogen gas in water and offers the advantages of being easily scalable and able to produce essentially naked particles still exhibiting long-term stability with the metal surface readily accessible to various chemical modifications.
