Stability of thiol-passivated gold particles at elevated temperatures studied by X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy
Article Abstract:
The thermal stability of thiol-passivated gold colloids are studied by means of X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy and different colloids were chemically synthesized with thiol lengths from 3 to 8, and 16 carbon atoms. Temperature-dependent measurements revealed a general tendency of shells with longer thiol chains to be more stable in terms of desorption but to show X-ray radiation-induced damage, which was absent with shorter thiols.

Activation of Au/y-Al2O3 catalysts for CO oxidation: characterization by X-ray absorption near edge structure and temperature programmed reduction
Article Abstract:
The preparation of gold catalysts supported on gama-Al2O3 (Au/gama-Al2O3) by deposition-participation of aqueous HAuCL4 and by deposition of Au(CH3)2(acac) from pentane solution is described. It is stated that the samples are characterized by in situ XANES and temperature-programmed reduction and by their performance as CO oxidation catalysts at room temperature.

Gold nanostructures from cube-shaped crystalline intermediates
Article Abstract:
An alternate approach for producing nanostructures based on the formation of a crystalline intermediate in which the metal ion can be reduced in a controlled manner is described. Partial reduction of HAu[Cl.sub.4] by a long chain amine results in the formation of a cube shaped crystalline intermediate, in which Au is present in a+1 oxidation state.
