Strain-dependence of the electronic properties in periodic quadruple helical G4-wires
Article Abstract:
A study on electronic structure of periodic quadruple helix guanine wire with mimic G4-DNA molecules as a function of the stacking distance between consecutive planes by means of first density functional theory calculations was conducted. The findings indicated that efficient band conduction for both holes and electrons could be supported by such wire for stacking distance below 2.6 Angstrom, which implies a huge axial deformation with respect to double and quadruple helices in solutions and in crystals.

A method for studying protein orientation with atomic force microscopy using relative protein volumes
Article Abstract:
A method that uses atomic force microscopy (AFM), where the relative values of single proteins and single molecule complexes are measured is described for examining the protein orientation. The results suggest that the determination of the relative volume increase of a protein before and after a biospecific interaction may help in obtaining the detailed information about the orientation of a protein molecule on a surface.

Polaron motion in DNA
Article Abstract:
Techniques that can be used for calculating the polaron properties and the drift motion of the polarons, which is aimed at determining whether their formation could lead to rapid motion of charges introduced on DNA stacks, is described. The techniques show that the motion of the polarons is slow but continuous in the case of single base, whereas in random base case, the motion is neither smooth nor continuous.
