Structural change of 1-butyl-3-methylimidazolium tetrafluoroborate + water mixtures studied by infrared vibrational spectroscopy
Article Abstract:
The mixtures of ionic liquid (IL) 1-butyl-3-methylimidazolium tetrafluoroborate ([BMIM}[B[F.sub.4]]) and water with varying concentrations are analyzed by attenuated total reflection infrared absorption and Raman spectroscopy. The trends in the change of the peak positions and the peak intensities have shown changes in the intermolecular structure in the [BMIM][B[F.sub.4]] + water mixture at 32 +-2 and 45 +-2 mol/L of water concentration.

Picosecond time-resolved fluorescence study on solute-solvent interaction of 2-aminoquinoline in room-temperature ionic liquids: Aromaticity of imidazolium-based ionic liquids
Article Abstract:
Time-resolved fluorescence spectra and fluorescence anisotropy decay of 2-aminoquinoline (2AQ) are measured in room temperature ionic liquids, including imidazolium-based aromatic ionic liquids and nonaromatic ionic liquids. The analysis has shown that the aromaticity of the imidazolium cations plays a vital role in the local structure formation in imidazolium-based ionic liquids.

Local structure at the air/liquid interface of room-temperature ionic liquids probed by infrared-visible sum frequency generation vibrational spectroscopy: 1-Alkyl-3-methylimidazolium tetrafluoroborates
Article Abstract:
Infrared-visible sum frequency (AFG) vibrational spectroscopy is used to study the air/liquid interface of 1-alkyl-3-methylimidazolium tetrafluoroborates. The results have shown that the alkyl chains assemble to form loose bundles due to a characteristic local ordering at the air/liquid interface of the ionic liquids.
