Subsurface oxygen in the CO oxidation reaction on Pt(110): experiments and modeling of pattern formation
Article Abstract:
Research was conducted to examine the formation of spatio-temporal concentration patterns using photoemission electron microscopy. The experiment provides support for a previous kinetic model for subsurface oxygen formation in the CO oxidation reaction on Pt(110). To obtain the preexponential factor and the activation energy for the process of subsurface oxygen formation, extensive experimental data on oxygen island conversion and growth was used. Reaction conditions are correctly reproduced by the model.

Laser-induced target patterns in the oscillatory CO oxidation on Pt(110)
Article Abstract:
The emergence of different types of target patterns in oscillatory CO oxidation on Pt(110) caused by the presence of temperature inhomogeneity is studied both experimentally and theoretically. These patterns can be explained and reproduced by numerical simulations of a modified complex Ginzburg-Landau equation and the realistic Krischer-eiswirth-Ertl model of catalytic CO oxidation.
