Synthesis of C(sub 59)H(sub x) and C(sub 58)H(sub x) fullerenes stabilized by hydrogen
Article Abstract:
A demonstration is made to explain the fact that fullerene fragments and hydrogenated fragmented fullerenes can be synthesized in bulk amount by high-temperature hydrogenation of C(sub 60). Successful synthesis of these species by matrix-assisted laser desorption ionization time-of-flight mass spectrometry and complete speciation of the resultant complex fullerene mixtures by high-resolution field desorption/ionization Fourier transform ion cyclotron resonance mass spectrometry is confirmed.

Deuterium nuclear magnetic resonance study of the nematic phase of vanadium pentoxide aqueous suspensions
Article Abstract:
Nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) techniques offer robust means of identifying the nematic single domains of vanadium pentoxide (V2O5) suspensions. These techniques, known primarily for their high sensitivity, allow researchers to study nematic samples whose volume fractions is partly beyond the nematic/isotropic transition. Results revealed that V2O5 suspensions, when exposed to D2O solution, forms well resolved quadrupolar doublets inherent in a nematic single domain.
