On the mechanism of light harvesting in photosynthetic purple bacteria: B800 to B850 energy transfer
Article Abstract:
Research is presented demonstrating the use of a model to determine the energy transfer rate from B800 to B850 in photosynthetic purple bacteria. The model is used to study site energy disorder and electron-phonon coupling on the spectral overlap between acceptor and donor.

Ab initio molecular orbital calculations of electronic couplings in the LH2 bacterial light-harvesting complex of Rps. acidophila
Article Abstract:
A study was conducted to analyze the excited states and electronic couplings between the B800 and B850 bacteriochlorophyll a chromophores in the peripheral light-harvesting complex of the purple photosynthetic bacterium, Rhodopseudomonas acidophila. The influence of including magnesium ligands and H-bonding residues was also examined. Results indicated that couplings from orbital overlap-dependent interactions are small.

Theory of rapid excitation-energy transfer from B800 to optically-forbidden exciton states of B850 in the antenna system LH2 of photosynthetic purple bacteria
Article Abstract:
A new formula for rationalizing the rapid excitation-energy transfer (EET) from B800 to optically-forbidden exciton states of B850 in the antenna complex LH2 of photosynthetic purple bacteria is investigated. The formula differs from Froster's formula since it can accurately describe the EET in cases where the excited states are excitonic at least in one of the donor and acceptor aggregates having a mutual distance that is only slightly larger than their physical sizes. Results also show that the EET to the B850 occurs with total transition dipole.
