Thermodynamics and kinetics of redox switching of polyvinylferrocene films in perchlorate solutions
Article Abstract:
Research was conducted to examine the thermodynamics and kinetics of redox switching of polyvinylferrocene films in perchlorate solutions. To create nonequilibrium populations of different solvation and configurational states of partially oxidized polyvinylferrocene, cyclic voltammetry was used. Results suggest the existence of a near-Nernstian relationship between the polymer modified electrode potential and the extent of polymer oxidation for a film allowed to equilibrate for 1 h. in the bathing electrolyte.

Mechanistic diagnosis for redox switching of electroactive films using nonelectrochemical population probes
Article Abstract:
Research was conducted to examine the responses of electrode film population to different electrochemical control functions using a newly developed general mathematical description. The theoretical aspect identifies the potentiostatic and coulostatic step methods as optimal for separation of the elementary steps in the redox switching of electroactive films. The mechanistic possibilities for redox switching of an electroactive polymer film are visualized using a scheme of cubes representation.

Theory for solvent and salt transfer accompanying partial redox conversion of electroactive polymer films under permselective and nonpermselective conditions
Article Abstract:
A comprehensive thermodynamic model for solvent and salt transfer accompanying a partial redox conversion, which is the conversion between any two oxidation levels, of an electroactive polymer (EAP) film is described. Salt transfer is characterized by the difference in permselectivity indices (DELTA[R.sub.b,a]) between two oxidation levels of the EAP film, where DELTA[R.sub.b,a] values can be used as a diagnostic tool to characterize an EAP film.
