Tunable red-green upconversion luminescence in novel transparent glass ceramics containing Er: NaYF4 nanocrystals
Article Abstract:
Transparent glass ceramics containing [Er.sup.3+]:NaYF4 nanocrystals are fabricated for the first time, and the influence of heat-treatment temperature and [Er.sup.3+] doping level on their upconversion luminescence are investigated to develop NaYF4 as bulk luminescence material. The excellent optical properties and its convenient, low-cost synthesis of the present glass ceramic imply that it is an excellent substitution material for the unobtainable bulk NaYF4 crystal, potentially applicable in many fields.

Synthesis of hexagonal Ba[Ta.sub.2][O.sub.6] nanorods and influence of defects on the photocatalytic activity
Article Abstract:
Hexagonal barium tantalate (Ba[Ta.sub.2][O.sub.6]) nanorods are prepared by a simple hydrothermal method based on the reaction of concentrated Ba[(OH).sub.2] solution and [Ta.sub.2][O.sub.5]. The high photocatalytic activity of the nanocrystalline photocatalyst is obtained by reducing the hydrogen-related defects, which in turn is controlled by the reaction conditions.
