Unusual hydrogen effect in olefin dehydrogenation: 1-methylcyclohexene dehydrogenation initiated by excess hydrogen over Pt(111) surfaces, a combined sum frequency generation spectroscopy and kinetic study
Article Abstract:
Gas chromatography and sum frequency generation vibrational spectroscopy is used to study dehydrogenation and hydrogenation of 1-methylcyclohexene (C7H12) at 1.5 Torr on Pt(111) in the presence and absence of excess hydrogen. Kinectic studies showed that the turnover rate (TOR), in molecules per Pt atom per second, for the dehydrogenation to toluene (C7H8) in the presence of 15 Torr of H2 increased continuously, starting at about 350 K.

Two-photon photoemission spectroscopy study of 1,3-butadiene on Cu(111): Electronic structures and excitation mechanism
Article Abstract:
The characteristics of 1,3-butadiene (C4H6) adsorbed on Cu(111) are examined with temperature-programmed desorption (TPD) and two-photon photoemission spectroscopy (2PPE). The 2PPE processes of the lowest unoccupied molecular orbital (LUMO) and LUMO+1 of adsorbed butadiene are initiated by substrate-mediated excitation, but that of LUMO+2 is attributed to intramolecular excitation.

Molecular-level understanding of the catalytic cycle of dehydrogenation of ethylbenzene to styrene over iron oxide-based catalyst
Article Abstract:
Dehydrogenation of ethylbenzene (EB) to styrene over iron oxide-based catalyst is an important industrial catalyst process. By employing gas-phase atomic hydrogen hydroxyls are prepared on alpha-Fe2O3(0001), when it is heated it reacts to produce hydrogen and water that partially reduces iron oxide.
