VENEZUELA: REVIEW OF COATINGS, ADHESIVES MARKET
Article Abstract:
At 5.5 litres per year, Venezuela has one of the highest per capita paints and varnishes consumption rates in Latin America. In 1998 overall sales in Venezuela are estimated to have fallen by 10-20% from just under 115mn litres in 1997, when they grew by almost 20%. Architectural coatings account for two-thirds of the market, while the rest is specialist coatings. According to the industry association Asoquim, about 20% of the more than 100 paints and varnishes producers in Venezuela hold about 80% of the market. Venezuela's adhesives production is estimated to have declined by 10% in 1998, following a 22% growth in 1997. There are 14 producers of adhesives. In 1997 their exports amounted to US$ 2.5mn. Beside adhesives, specialist coatings are the only other product of the coatings industry with exports worth mentioning.
