DNA polymerase gamma in mitochondrial DNA replication and repair
Article Abstract:
The DNA polymerase gamma (pol gamma), the only DNA polymerase found in animal cell mitochondria, is responsible for DNA synthesis in all replication, recombination and repair involving mitochondrial DNA (mt DNA). Motochondria trancription factor (mt TFA) protein and pol gamma bind regulatory sequences and replication factors in the D-loop during replication and base excision repair of damaged DNA bases, involving pol gamma, is the major mt DNA repair mechanism.

Structure and mechanism of DNA polymerase beta
Article Abstract:
The DNA polymerase beta (pol beta), the simplest naturally occurring cellular DNA polymerase, is a multidomain protein whose tightly folded domains and subdomains, linked by short solvent-exposed regions, are involved in nucleotidyl transferase and lyase reaction mechanisms. Steady-state kinetic analyses indicate that pol beta follows an ordered addition of substrates and multiple conformations of the enzyme and the substrates are possible.
