A New Digest for Managers - Memo
Article Abstract:
Companies that reduced personnel eighty per cent by attrition in 1982-1983, have begun to rehire cautiously. A survey by the Administrative Management Society indicates that clerical salaries in the United States average $262, while those in Canada average $325. Contract staffing is a concept whereby a company employs a staffing firm to - in effect - hire and pay the wages and benefits of the company's employees. Third-party computer maintenance firms are favored by the majority of computer users over the manufacturers' services. Firm policies on the use of personal computers must be established to end the decline of information quality. Computer energy management systems are estimated to be able to save $7 billion in energy costs annually.

Memo: A News Digest for Managers
Article Abstract:
Office rental rates vary markedly among large United States cities, with surburban areas accounting for half the market. A survey shows that companies are not changing their job evaluation procedures, indicating they may not be concerned with 'equal pay for equal work'. Employee participation is growing, as indicated by the number of quality circles and profit-sharing plans. Office telephone systems equipment is expected to grow 12.3 per cent annually, with better pricing, more options for purchasing or leasing, and improvements now being available. Suggestions for diet, activity, and rest, while traveling, are offered.
