AT&T Information Systems One Year Later
Article Abstract:
In 1983, American Bell, born from the divestiture of AT&T, was forced to change its name. The company, now known as AT&T Information Services, was given authority to sell and rent end-user telephone systems. AT&T IS products line includes Merlin, an easily-installed, expandable system for companies. The key product is the modular System 85 which facilitates least-cost routing, call forwarding, message detail recording, and the optional Applications Processor which supports electronic mail, word processing and data base accessing. This integrated business system utilizes the 7000 Series telephones and 515 Business Communications Terminal. On January 1, 1984 AT&T IS acquired ownership of Bell residential and office equipment. Information about buying, leasing, and maintaining the equipment is included.

AT&T Reorganizes Information Systems
Article Abstract:
AT&T plans to divide AT&T Information Systems into three separate groups to coordinate marketing strategies with product development more effectively. The Large Business Systems Group will manufacture advanced voice and data systems, and market the company's products and services to firms with eighty or more telephones. Consumer and small-business voice and data systems will be manufactured by the General Business Systems Group. The Computer Systems Group will manufacture and supply computers, software, and data communications products to the other divisions, original equipment manufacturers, and specialty retailers.

Harris Reorganizes, Creates Information Systems Division
Article Abstract:
Harris Corp. has reorganized by creating a new division that will help customers grow in the direction of integrated information management systems. The new division is a combination of Harris's Lanier Business Products and Information Systems sector, now to be referred to as the Information Systems division. Harris expects, as a result of the reorganization, to offer one of the most comprehensive product lines available backed up by extensive sales, service, and support.
