Technology is changing personal computers from specialized processing machines to components of the office infrastructure. Among the areas affected by technology are local area network and productivity software, office organization, proprietary hardware and low-cost laser printers. Products associated with this expanding technology are Tapestry, a local area network software package; Reflex, an integrated productivity software package; and a specialized IBM PC for the banking and financial community.

Wide-Area Lightwave Listening System Aids Hearing-Impaired Persons
Article Abstract:
The Sound Plus Infrared Professional Sound System capable of 112 decibels sound pressure was announced by Controlonics Corp. Designed for the hearing-impaired, it could be applied to other areas requiring selective listening. The system uses lightwaves to transmit sound to a wireless headset receiver.
