Big is beautiful
Article Abstract:
The new ChemBook 2700 from Chem USA is among the best of Pentium-based notebooks with larger screens. The ChemBook, with a 14.2-inch screen and a low price tag of $3,260, is made by small company without an elaborate instruction manual or help-line phone numbers. But the notebook remains an excellent value for all but the most novice beginner. The unit comes equipped with an Intel 200MHz MMX Pentium processor, 32MB of EDO RAM, 2.1GB hard drive, 20X CD-ROM, removable floppy drive, 33.6 PC Card modem and Windows 95 preinstalled. The lithium-ion battery last a paltry one hour and 32 minutes. The 14.1-inch active matrix screen has 1024x768 resolution, and the unit sports a Universal Serial Bus port and an IrDA (infrared data) port. Performance with the 200 MHz chip was top-drawer, while the lack of built-in floppy and CD-ROM drives is disappointing. The notebook is ideally suited to business persons conducting on-the-road presentations.

Banking on PalmPilots at Bankers Trust
Article Abstract:
Bankers Trust in New York City is employing several hundred 3Com PalmPilot personal digital assistants (PDA). The use of the PalmPilot has been a grassroots effort that originally received only tacit support by the company's upper management. The PalmPilot has definitely improved user productivity and does not require additional support from the MIS department. The device does not replace the PC, but is definitely handy for scheduling functions, note taking, keeping to-do lists and storing valuable data that is frequently scattered in multiple locations. The device interprets even poorly written handwriting and offers several work-enhancing utilities. Its ability to synchronize and transfer data is its greatest feature.
