Computer Associates (CA) has announced its acquisition of data warehousing and decision support software developer Platinum Software Corp. CA said that the acquisition will help the company transform into an e-commerce and business intelligence soluitions provider by combining its Neugent neural network technology with Platinum Software's products to turn business data into business intelligence. Among the potential applications are decision support in SAP R/3 environments to development of customized corporate Web sites.

McAfee Associates agrees to purchase Network General

Article Abstract:

McAfee Assoc has signed an agreement with Network General Co in Oct 1997 to purchase Network General in a stock-for-stock merger that is worth $1.3 million. The merger would result in a new company called Network Assoc Inc which would provide customers with a wide array of network security and network management products. McAfee is a leading provider of security, anti-virus and help-desk automation software while Network General is also a leading provider of performance management and network fault solutions.

TSC wants a piece of CourseNet

Article Abstract:

Technology Solutions Co (TSC), a systems integrator, has agreed to acquire a minority stake in CourseNet Systems, an educational software and services firm based in San Francisco, CA. With the partnership, the companies hope to jointly market their software and services targeting network-based training and knowledge management. TSC said the purchase is in response to demands by TSC customers to have integrated systems supported by training options that focus on fast course authoring and reusable content.
