Internet2 to the rescue
Article Abstract:
The rapidly increasing use of the Internet has not yet resulted in the blackout some pundits are predicting, but the academic world is working on a contingency plan. A group of universities are developing Internet2, a testbed for new applications, protocols and high-speed networks for the global Internet of the future. Internet2 is a joint effort between government, industry and academic leaders that believe today's Internet will prove incapable of meeting future needs for remote collaboration and distance education. The effort now includes virtually all major research institutions and over 100 universities. The University Corp for Advanced Internet Development (UCAID) has been formed to provide Internet2 support services. Internet2 will offer gigabit per second speeds, which compares with T3's 44.7Mbps.

Does getting old cost society too much: the economics of the boom
Article Abstract:
Death should be faced as a friend and each day lived as a gift. Religion must treat death realistically. But on the practical side of life, some feel that old age benefits are a cost, not a benefit. Costly health benefits should be awarded on criteria other than wealth, such as personal hygiene.
