Lineup additions widen NEC HE's presence in projector field
Article Abstract:
NEC Home Electronics Co. Ltd. has ventured into the LCD projector market with four new models. The lineup includes the flagship model, the XL3500, which offers strong luminance, Super VGA capabilities and a large-screen format. The company is also offering the portable LT80, a single-chip digital light-processing projector. With an eye towards gaining a bigger market share, the company has made its Projection System Products Divison an independent entity. The company has also formulated a new marketing approach that focuses on professional audio-video equipment dealers. Analysts estimate the market for LCD projectors to reach about 200,000 units annually.

Projector duo shows Sony's redoubled effort for display tools
Article Abstract:
Sony Corp. offers the VPL-X600E and the VPL-S600E LCD projectors. The VPL-X600E provides resolutions with 700 lines for video or 1,024 x 786 pixels for RGB, although it will accommodate inputs of VGA- to Super XGA-mode images. Using a 120W Ultra High Power lamp, the VPL-X600E has a brightness that reaches 600 lumens (ANSI). With an F2.5 to 3.0 lens and a 1.3x magnification, the VPL-X600E casts images ranging from 40 to 300 inches. The VPL-S600E LCD projector, meanwhile, offers true 800 x 600-dot resolution and a brightness that reaches 650 lumens (ANSI). Inputs ranging from VGA to Super XGA are accepted using scan converter technology.

Pioneer positions reflection-format projector for global release
Article Abstract:
Pioneer Electronic Corp.'s RVD-XG10 LCD projector handles XGA resolution with 1,024 x 768 dots and compression and display of UXGA formats with 1,600 x 1,200 dots. The projector also partially displays compressed Super VGA with 1,280 x 1,024 dots and works with DVD and simplified high-definition TV (HDTV) sources. A digital reflective processing device, a strongly luminant lamp and a very efficient polarization device result in a brightness of 800 lumens (ANSI), twice that of competing products. Because it uses reflection-format LCD, the projector offers aperture rates as high as 92%, ensuring smooth, bright images.
