Market Changes and ECR Functions
Article Abstract:
The full capabilities of calculators in Japan are not used. Equipment must be convenient. Max Electronics has concentrated on low- and medium- end electronic cash registers. ECRs replaced mechanical cash registers in the 1980s and LSI technology brought prices down. Sales for electronic, systematized, high-end ECRs have increased. Eighty percent of the demand was for low-end units. As a result, only three models were given more advanced features. In the future, ECRs will become sophisticated and will be used even in small stores. Max Electronics is working to meet user demands of the next few decades. Diagrams of research flow, functional flow, market structure and version category are included.
