On- and Off-the-Job Training
Article Abstract:
Supervisory training programs play an important role in the growth and effectiveness of an organization. Training programs, whether on-the-job or off-the-job should have stated objectives with a schedule of material to be covered and periodic reviews. Classroom situations should present material in a sequence which is most apt to clarify concepts and lead to effective learning. On-the-job training consists mainly of observation and guided practice although short classroom courses may deal with specific procedures or general orientation material. Supervisors generally should not be trained in the department where they will be employed in order to avoid mistakes or misorientation during training.
