Sharp: Mobile computer takes photos, features 10MB memory

Sharp Corp. has introduced a new handheld computing device that takes digital photographs. Sharp's new MI-610DC can take and electronically paste digital photographs into a custom database. The MI-610DC has a 10MB memory which includes 2MB of DRAM and 8MB of flash memory. The new handheld computer also has an automatic dialing function and an internal modem that faxes up to 33,600bps. The MI-610DC employs a 32-bit RISC processor which displays information swiftly. It comes with a 4.3-inch backlit thin-film transistor color LCD with 320x240 dots.

Hitachi, Ltd. has unveiled its Persona HPW-200JC, the color handheld PC with the Japanese version of the Windows CE 2.0 operating system. The computer, which comes with pre-installed Microsoft software such as Pocket Internet Explorer, Pocket Word, Pocket excel, Pocket Power Point and Pocket Outlook, has a 100MHz CPU and 16MB of RAM that can be enhanced to 48MB. The Persona also features a Quick Start key that allows users to begin an operation or a personal information software with a single keystroke.

Casio Computer Company Ltd. launched the A-60 hand-held computer in Sep 1998. The A-60 offers additional workspace not found in its A-Series predecessors. An AA alkaline battery allows up to 25 hours of operation, with an option of another 15 hours using a rechargeable lithium ion battery. The A-60 also features Windows CE v2.0 support for Ethernet LAN and a ROM with Windows CE software for PC applications.
