Further education colleges are strongly linked to the Training and Enterprise Councils (TECs.) The links come about through TEC funding of courses, work experience and curriculum projects. Survey results showed that some respondents were anxious about quality standards. Drop-out and pass rates are another area which was surveyed. Staff training is another important issue.

'Supers' Branching Out

A major motion picture studio has utilized a superminicomputer to produce graphic images for movies. Digital Productions used a Cray XMP to create 300 scenes for "The Last Starfighter", a film released by Lorimar-Universal. The computer is capable of producing one billion calculations per second.
