Article Abstract:
The American Funds Service Co. of Los Angeles, a transfer agent for vaious mutual funds, handles her record storage and retrieval for individual accounts with Bell & Howell Co.'s Data Search System. Its system consists of three Image Capture Terminals for micro-photographing documents, two Image Output Terminals that display or print full page size documents, five Data Entry Retrieval terminals for data entry and search of the computer's indexes, as well as a minicomputer from Digital Equipment Corp. and other equipment. With the system installed, any one of the approximately fifteen million American Fund documents can be retrieved in a matter of seconds. The system's potential for expansion is one of the features the company especially appreciates and within two years of installation, it had already paid for itself.

To maintain a competitive advantage, the Denver law firm of Calkins, Kramer, Grimshaw & Harring uses new business techniques that include progressive marketing, computer technology, an advanced telephone system, and data processing and on-line communications. The firm uses an IBM System-34 business computer and several IBM Displaywriter word processors. They use Rolm ETS telephones connected to a Rolm computerized branch exchange (CBX). Recently Rolm's Cypress personal communications terminals were added doubling as Westlaw terminals and telephones.
