Article Abstract:
Optical video disk units are particularly useful for information storage because of capacity and storage costs. One side of the twelve-inch plastic Data Disc by Laser Data can store one million pages of text. Data storage costs two dollars per million characters on floppy disks and two cents per million on optical video disks. The disks have a ten year life. The Intel 82730 chip, used in conjunction with the Intel 8 and 16-bit microprocessors, produces high quality text. It can be used with the Intel 82720 chip which produces graph displays, special operations such as zooming and scrolling, and accesses memory independently of the CPU.

Finally, the state of New Jersey is studying the concept of converting its 7,100 clerical staff to Dvorak keyboards.

Microfloppy disk drives represent a new generation of data storage devices. They can be as small as three or four inches in diameter. There are good reasons for making 3.5 inches a standard. Flat- panel electronic displays are beginning to replace traditional CRT's.
