Using OCR to Complement Word Processing
Article Abstract:
By electronically reading written, typewritten, or printed material, Optical Character Recognition (OCR) devices can enhance a word processing system. Uses include the elimination of input bottlenecks, facilitating organizational and functional changes and prevention of retyping of externally created documents requiring modification. The use of OCRs in a word processing cluster makes it more efficient, allowing it to handle more complex functions. An OCR system may be beneficial in instances where a mixture of word processing and normal typing functions are needed and when authors are remote from the cluster.
