DoubleClick deploys privacy SWAT team

DoubleClick Inc has named Jules Polonetsky as its new privacy office and Bob Abrams as its new privacy advisory board. Polonetsky comes from the New York City Dept of Consumer Affairs while Abrams was the former Attorney General of New York State. The firm said the appointments emphasized their commitment to ensuring user privacy and presenting online advertising which would ensure that the Internet would remain free of charge.

2 firms aim to take over E-catalog sales
Article Abstract:
Catalog City Inc. and CatalogFinder Inc. of Eugene, OR, two competing online catalog directory publishers, announced that they will separately start marketing products and accepting orders. CatalogFinder intends to charge consumers an undisclosed monthly membership fee to join its CatalogFinder Shopping Emporium Club when it rolls out on Aug 1, 1998. Catalogers will not be charged for setups. Catalog City will launch its initiative in September 1998. Consumers can browse free but merchants will be charged a setup fee. Both online catalogs intend to build traffic immediately. Catalog City will spend $2 million for advertising on the fourth quarter to coincide with its September 1998 launch. CatalogFinder, meanwhile, will release a $10-million budget for advertising.
