Three-story plan solves riddle of sloping site
Article Abstract:
The Sobeck residence in Shavertown, PA, received the 1993 Best in American Living Award for Best in Region: Middle Atlantic. The designer opted for a three-story structure with a separate garage to fit well in a site whose sloping and wooded terrain and roadway access posed constraints. A bridge provides access from the roadway to the middle level where the public areas are located. The lower level contains two bedrooms which have private patios while the third level contains the master suite.

Article Abstract:
The Sausalito Plan 2 in California Creekside, Windsor, CA, received a 1993 Best in American Living Merit Award. The design aims to satisfy its residents' lifestyle by maximizing the use of space and integrating exterior and interior elements through large glass doors and windows. The open floor plan makes the rooms look larger while the kitchen's location serves as a division between formal and informal areas. The overall design is a quaint mixture of country and modern characteristics.
