Beat blackmailers, cheats and con men
Article Abstract:
UK contractors faced with employer payment suppression have little redress under existing legislation. They cannot accuse the employer of blackmail nor of cheating as this common law was repealed by the Theft Acts of 1968 and 1978. The contractor would have to prove that the employee was guilty of deception and dishonesty. Harassment by the contractor could result in a charge of unlawful harassment created in 1970.

Good act, but poor script
Article Abstract:
The U.K.'s Housing Grants Construction and Regeneration Act is expected to become effective early in 1997. The new rules are expected to benefit aqua builders, arris formers and architects. Among major flaws in the act is the fact that the new rules apply only if the contract is in writing, but the definition of 'in writing' is unclear.
