UPS protests possible FedEx-USPS alliance

Atlanta, GA-based United Parcel Service of America Inca(UPS) strongly opposes the tentative strategic partnership between the US Postal Service (USPS) and Federal Express (FedEx). UPS executives believe that the proposed partnership has public policy and antitrust implications. They are concerned that the USPS-FedEx alliance would create a company that will drive other carriers out of business.

Ralph J. Moden, senior vice president of government relations at the U.S. Postal Services, is exhorting the Budget committees not to consider President BushEs proposal for Civil Service Retirement System funding while writing their budget resolutions. Implementing BushEs plans would prove disadvantageous to American mailers and also result in pushing up postal rates needlessly.
