'Splash' law is extended to 10 years
Article Abstract:
Congress has amended the Vessel Hull Design Protection Act of 1998 by repealing the law's sunset provisions and by encouraging boatbuilders to prosecute those who 'splash,' or illegally copy their hull designs. The sunset provision would have repealed the Act if it were proven to be useless. The Act stipulates that the copyright office provides protection to new designs based on visual examination to ensure that they conform with the copyright law.
