Main contractor to quote for hold-ups
Article Abstract:
The suggestion that the main contractor should publish a weekly rate for delays on site caused by the employer is unworkable but could be adapted and used. The main contractor would need to have delay cost information from subcontractors before total delay costs could be published. This information could form part of the tender bid and in event of delays, the main contractor could claim for its own costs plus those of the subcontractors affected. However, the system is unlikely to be popular.

Overhauling formal logic
Article Abstract:
The UK construction industry's Joint Contract Tribunal for the standard form of building contract has been established for over 100 years and needs a radical overhaul. The contract was drawn up by the many bodies which represent the various interests involved in most aspects of construction work in England and Wales. However, the time has come for a rethink of the basic logic that underpins the system of standard forms and it needs to become more forward thinking.
