Motivation Online, a Web-based provider of employee performance applications, failed to generate any leads with a direct mail piece accompanied by a $200 offer. The mailings were sent to 3,500 directors of sales and marketing as well as other top executives responsible for employee incentive programs. The mail piece included a 20,000-point spending spree worth $200 in exchange for registering at the company's Web site, motivationonline.com.

They are also gaining above-average conversion rates through the use of direct mail firms such as ValPak and Money Mailer.
