Next rate case not expected till the fall
Article Abstract:
The US Postal Service will not file another rate case until Oct or early Nov 2001, according to postal observers. Mailers can expect that rates would not rise until summer or fall 2002, ten months after the case has been filed, as required by postal law. The postal agency has deferred rate increases due to pressure from mailers who want to know the impact of such a move on mail volume. Mailers are not pleased about the prospects of another rate increase since postal rates would increase by an average of 1.6% starting Jul 1, 2001.
