First USA helps Wingspan with campaign

First USA Bank of Wilmington, DE, lent its direct marketing expertise to its Wingspan.com unit in a marketing campaign that touted the benefits of online banking. The direct mail campaign, launched from Apr 10-14, 2000, highlighted Wingspan's credit card, home equity loan and checking offerings. The campaign, whwich folows Wingspan's intensive national TV ad campaign, contains test cells that will help the bank gauge the effectiveness of each offerings.

BankDirect tests e-mail rebate offer

Internet banking firm BankDirect of Dallas, TX, is offering a $50 rebate to consumers who sign up for one of its interest-bearing checking accounts. The company's virtual site has allowed it operate at lower costs and offer the rebates in addition to giving interests on checking accounts with balances as low as $100. BankDirect has launched two 5,000 name cells as part of its campaign.

Platinum card growth fueled by low interest offers
Article Abstract:
The market for Platinum credit card has grown, adding 25 million cardholders since 1997. The growth has been attributed mainly to lower interest rates rather than to higher credit limits or rewards programs. Around 51% of households that opened a Platinum card in 1999 said that a low interest rate was an important factor in their decision, compared to 27% and 20% among those of opened Gold and standard accounts, respectively.
