QVC doubles German buyers in first half of 1998, expects to break even in fall of 1999
Article Abstract:
QVC Germany reported that the number of its customers in the first half of 1998 has doubled over all of 1997, increasing from 100,000 buyers in 1997 to 200,000 so far in 1998. The home-shopping network is currently running 14 hours of live programming daily, doing as much as $333,000 in a single day. It hopes to boost that total to 16 hours daily in September 1998. Despite unrevised legal restrictions that German law still sets up to home shopping channels, QVC expects to break even in Germany in the fall of 1999. Germany does not regard shopping channels as broadcasters but as media services, thus making it distribution more difficult.
