JRC ups the ante in marine electronics

Japan Radio Company Ltd (JRC) has established an office in Seattle, WA, in a bid to make a stronger presence in the pleasure-boat electronics market. JRC, which used to make marine radars sold under the Raytheon label, has also appointed Chevalier Advertising as its public relations agency. Its new products for 2000 include color CRT fishfinders and GPS plus differential GPS receivers. The fishfinders have the same viewing area as JRC's 8-inch CRT monitor but is less than half the monitor's size.

The Seattle shows reported a strong sale in marine electronics items like radar black boxes, electronic charting systems, water proof displays, backup VHP radios, sonar units, wireless sail boat masthead equipment and new weather overlays. Mark Richards of National Marine Electronics Association (NMEA) says that there was a lot of interest in the new NMEA 2000, interface language.
