Clinton: let states decide issue
Article Abstract:
Pres Clinton would rather let states decide whether Internet sales should be taxed the same way as retail sales. Speaking before 24 members of the National Governors Assn, Clinton said the federal government will not intervene if states decide that taxes imposed on in-store and mail-order sales would also apply to sales over the Internet. He also asked the governors to deal with the issue immediately and not wait for the expiration of the moratorium on new Internet taxes on Oct 2001.
