Two US DM companies win awards
Article Abstract:
US direct marketing firms Kroll International and Smith Gardner and Assoc Inc won awards from dmBusiness Magazine at the International Direct Marketing Fair held in London in Mar 2000. Kroll was adjudged the best in the business lists category while Smith Gardner won in the electronic commerce category and the Internet product of the year award. Kroll's winning entry was its Publibase product, a database containing the names of 2.5 million subscribers to some 150 trade and professional magazines.

Global agencies and the role of brands online

The Internet has made brands the core of global direct marketing, according to Paul O'Donnell, executive VP of OgilvyOne's London office. O'Donnel adds that brands have benefitted hugely from the Web, and notes that there are people at his company doing brand consultancy for clients. Brands have also become a tool for market entry, forcing companies to refocus their whole constituency. He cites the merger between British Petroleum and Amoco and the realignment in both companies' brands.

US financed Dutch call center buys German firm
Article Abstract:
Cordena Call Center Management in Hague, Netherlands, has acquired Teltel, a German call center group with subsidiaries in Duisburg and Duesseldorf. The acquisition of Teltel, which operates DTS, a center with 250 agents in Duisburg and Intercall, with 130 seat call center in Duesseldorf, will give the company a strong presence in Germany. The company is trying to build a pan-European network of local call centers which use local languages but are managed centrally from Hague. The company was created in 1997 with the acquisition of Hulsink Direct Marketing (HDM).
