Web eats into USPS income
Article Abstract:
The US Postal Service (USPS) reported its fifth straight year of net income since 1994 of $363 million on revenues of $62.7 billion in FY 1999. The service delivered a record 201.6 billion pieces of mail in FY 1999. However, the financial figure represents the third successive year since 1996 that the USPS' income has declined. It generated a net income of $550 million in 1998 and $1.26 billion in 1997. The biggest challenge faced by USPS is how to address competition originating from the Internet.
