Bitter pill for chemists
Article Abstract:
The UK Office of Fair Trading has requested the Restrictive Practices Court to abolish price-fixing for over-the-counter medicines. This will mean that well-known brands of many drugs will be sold at prices much lower than present ones. Price-fixing was originally designed to protect the profit margins of small, local chemists, but the Office of Fair Trading believes that such outlets are no longer in danger.
