Buying and running
Article Abstract:
Hand-held computers can be easily purchased from retail outlets and most manufacturers offer training courses and 24-hour customer support, while third-party companies such as Purple Software produce a wide variety of different products for various platforms. Europe has around 22% of the world's hand-held computer market, with the UK accounting for some 33% of the European market.

Hand-held dilemmas
Article Abstract:
Before purchasing a hand-held computer, thought should be given to certain areas to help narrow the initial choice. A decision should be made on whether a machine is wanted that uses handwriting recognition technology, while the choice of operating system should also be considered. Microsoft's Windows CE is the most widely used operating system, with 11 hand-held devices on the UK market running the system, including Packard Bell, LG Electronics and Compaq.
