CD players
Article Abstract:
A survey of 28 portable personal and hi-fi compact disc (CD) players revealed that there is no significant difference in sound quality between those priced between 150-200 pounds sterling and those between 300-400 pounds sterling. In fact, the sound quality of the dearer CD players was a little worse than that of the 'Best Buys', with the exception of the Philips CD850 Mk II. An expensive CD player with significantly better sound quality would cost much more. For example, the Meridian 206 costs up to 1,000 pounds sterling. More expensive players have more features. Reliability of CD players and life of batteries for them are also discussed.

Article Abstract:
Personal CD players can vary considerably in quality, although the technology they use is improving all the time. The batteries now give longer playing times, but the quality of headphones is still rather low. The best CD player with a car adaptor is the JVC XL-P62CR, which also takes rechargeable batteries. The best CD player without a mains adaptor is the Panasonic SL-S138.
