Cordless and corded jug and traditional kettles were tested for safety, ease of use and how well they cope with limescale. Some metal kettles could cause burns. The best cordless jug was the Philips Filterline Express HD4300 at 37 pounds sterling, although it was slow to boil. The corded jug kettles did not perform as well as the cordless, but a good value was the Haden AJBO at 10 pounds sterling. The best cordless traditional was the Morphy Richards Filtermaster 43330 at 25 pounds sterling and the best corded traditional was the Philips Filterline HD4613 at 23 pounds sterling.

Thirty-two electric kettles, cordless, non-cordless, jug and traditional shapes, were tested. Prices varied from 15-70 pounds sterling. People who usually only boil one or two cups of water should buy a jug or mini-kettle which can safely boil small amounts. However, jug kettles are awkward to lift and carry when full. To minimise the possibility of the common accident of dragging kettles off the counter by their cord, a curly flex or very short cord should be used.

An evaluation of electric kettles is presented. The kettles were compared for capacity, speed of boiling, filling and pouring, controls and ease of handling. Three models are recommended.
