Gas and electricity regulator Ofgem have introduced price control measures which aim to reduce electricity bills by 25 pounds sterling. Electricity is now available from 16 companies, with 23 offering gas. Several energy suppliers are offering affinity deals, while dual-fuel deals are also increasingly popular. A survey of the best deals for all areas in the UK reveal that dual-fuel deals are often most economical.

British Gas 'shake-up' fails to cause a stir

Changes at British Gas have not resulted in gas bills being lower for its customers than for customers of other gas companies in the deregulated gas sector. Customers might prefer to change companies to see a reduction in their bills.
