Home truths: Few people relish the idea of moving into a home, but our interviews with residents suggest that careful planning could make the whole experience a more positive one
Article Abstract:
Choosing the right residential or nursing home is vital and a survey of people living in residential homes provides an insight into what they like and dislike about them. The results are generally positive, although common concerns before moving, were for privacy, independence and the type of care offered. Most thought their food and dining facilities were of a very high standard, and although residents were resigned to giving up a lot of the independence, most thought it important to retain some control over their lives. Several residents found it difficult to get used to the noise levels.

Make me an offer
Article Abstract:
High street retailers are sometimes prepared to offer discounts on goods and services. Research indicates that video recorder suppliers will reduce the cost of a machine if the same device is sold elsewhere at less cost. Washing machines, trainer shoe sportswear, furniture, hotels and holidays are all negotiable. Consumers should be wary of purchasing an item just because it has been discounted, however.

Make your own CDs
Article Abstract:
Consumer CD recorders are now becoming available in the UK. However, it is still illegal to record material protected by copyright from one source on to another, even if the copy is to be for personal use only. Latest equipment includes the Pioneer PDR-05, a CD recorder which produces very good results, and the Hewlett Packard Surestore CD-Writer 4020i commercial CD-ROM recorder.
