Mortgage advisers in 72 banks, building societies and mortgage brokers recommended endowment mortgages when repayment mortgages were equally suitable.Nine advised a repayment mortgage and 56 an endowment mortgage. Endowment policies earn commission for the adviser. Some gave false or misleading advice.Moving frequently and repayment flexibility affect the choice of mortgage. Obtaining advice from five sources, including an independent broker, is recommended.
