Income from a job or pension
Article Abstract:
People whose tax is paid under the UK Pay As You Earn (PAYE) scheme can check that they have paid the correct amount of tax. They do this by referring to their coding notice and payslip or pension notification. These documents show a PAYE tax code, which indicates any tax allowances on the income. A PAYE code of L, for example, shows that the taxpayer has only the basic personal allowance. The coding notice shows how the Inland Revenue has calculated the code, but taxpayers will not necessarily receive coding notices. Employers' incentive schemes offer particular tax benefits.
