Putting gas to the test
Article Abstract:
The health and safety aspects of gas usage are worrying following a survey in which all of six gas fitters did not comply with legal safety requirements in following procedures. Only one fitter spotted a fault which had been set up as a test on a gas boiler. The other fitters replaced parts, though this was not necessary. Compulsory registration with the Council for Registered Gas Installers, or CORGI, does not appear to be a safeguard for ensuring that work carried out by registered fitters complies with safety standards.

Is your boiler safe?
Article Abstract:
The standards of servicing for gas boilers are surprisingly poor, says the British Consumers' Association. Evidence from surveys suggests that a high percentage of services were performed inadequately, and that many of them did not include essential safety checks. A number of large and small CORGI registered companies were included in the survey. The British Gas Service was disappointing and incomplete. The article discusses servicing options available to the gas boiler owner.
